For someone who wants a loving and energetic dog, the miniature English bull terrier may be the perfect choice of a pet. The bull terrier is a very playful and energetic dog, but it does have a stubborn streak. They are very unique in the spectrum of dogs overall with their temperament and breed in general. They can give tremendous joy or indefinite havoc to their owner depending on how they are raised and treated. Those owners who realize how special their breed is are likely the ones that will realize the joy that can come from owning this dog.
Like other small dogs, they often don’t realize their size and will not back down from a challenge or fight with another dog, even one that is much larger than they are. However, with the right training, this kind of confrontation can be avoided. Miniature English bull terriers need to be trained early in life. It is good to socialize them early on as the more interaction they have with other animals, the easier it will be to get them to avoid confrontations. Teaching them to obey early in life is also good as the younger they are when they are learning to obey your commands, they more likely they will be to do so.
The Miniature English bull terrier is likely to keep their owner very busy. They like to always be “doing something” and are very active as puppies and well into young adulthood. They do well in homes with young children or the elderly as they need someone around who has a lot of time to spend with them. If they are put into a home or yard where they are expected to spend long periods of time alone, they become similar to a small child and get bored and destructive. They end up chewing and biting things, become very difficult to housebreak, and develop irritating habits such as incessant barking.
These dogs love to be involved in the lives of their owners. They are wonderful with children as long as they are supervised. They will tolerate many behaviors of children, but do not do well when being teased and can often turn fierce when being treated unfairly. For this reason, supervision is necessary so their behavior can be curbed and stopped when it gets too aggressive. Children should also be taught not to tease the miniature English bull terrier so that hopefully, this supervision does not have to be constant.
