The Miniature Bull Terrier Club of America, or MBTCA, was founded in 1966. It was created originally to show information and appreciation of the breed. It publishes a magazine called, “A Little Bull” four times a year and presents trophies and other awards, as well as conducting shows around the country.
A miniature bull terrier is generally active, clownish and playful with lots of energy. These characteristics are what draws owners to the breed. They are extremely drawn to the owners and families to which they belong. This makes them natural guard dogs. They will protect their families with which they share a bond. It is important not to purposefully make them jealous or possessive, which could lead to not knowing the difference between good and bad strangers. They require constant and firm discipline. They can withstand a lot of childrens’ behaviors, but don’t expect them to tolerate teasing well or for them to jump into rough play of children.
As for getting along with other dogs, the miniature bull terrier doesn’t naturally get along with other male dogs if he hasn’t been altered. Male and female miniature bull terriers and two female bull terriers can live harmoniously together, however. Expecting an old bull terrier which has had the attention of the family for a long time probably will not get along well with a new dog entering the household.
As puppies, the miniature bull terriers are very active and continue to be so until the age of five or six years. They like to keep busy doing something all of the time. Therefore, they fit well into active family lifestyles where they are not alone and have good supervision. If you are considering joining the miniature bull terrier club and get one for your family, it is important that you realize that this breed should not be left alone a lot or have restricted exercise because it may become bored and destructive. If left alone too much, they will chew on things and destroy things and bark incessantly, which could be bad for you and the neighbors.
If you find that you are so inclined to be a part of the Miniature Bull Terrier club, you will find great joy, entertainment and love from a Miniature Bull Terrier. All you have to do is provide the space and devote a good amount of time with your dog to have a life of enjoyment.
